Peter Jackson
The Walter Mitty of Otley
WALTER MITTYS

Hay ho January 2022 is looking to be a busy month for the WMHCHQ. Meet the former Mayor of Otley Peter Jackson.
We were tipped off about Jackson after a photo of him wearing (if you can call it that) the Uniform of a Lt Col RMP, complete with QGM, SAM 82, UN Cyprus and GSM with MID.

The Tip Off
Good evening. I think I’ve found a live one here a Caravan site in North Yorkshire has a bar manager on the site, Peter Jackson, he’s an interesting character, having been a lorry driver, solicitor, the Mayor of Otley and now an Honorary Colonel in the RMP. There’s a photo of him in uniform.

His uniform looks like a potatoes sack, clearly too big and never been near an iron.

Sam Browne in shit order and interestingly he’s rocking a QGM, UN Cyprus, South Atlantic Medal and GSM with MiD Oakleaf. a bit of further Google digging unveiled his LinkedIn where he states he’s ex RMP SIB, an Honorary Lt Colonel and graduated from Sandhurst with a Bachelor of Law degree.

He was definitely a local Councillor and was the Mayor of Otley

He is the director of a company called Crown Legal Services that has a dodgy website displaying obviously fake profiles of Associates (Now deleted), one of whom he claims is a High Court Judge despite being no older than 35 and not appearing on the list of Senior Judiciary appointments. All very odd. But back to Jackson.
His LinkedIn reads this

So we dug into his social media and he was a councillor and the Mayor of Otley.

Like Nick MacDonald. Jackson choose a unit that is a very close bunch so a unit one could not and should not walt with confidence with. When scrolling through his pictures not a hint of any photos when serving which is a huge combat indicator to walting.

So first let’s address his alleged commission and Queens Gallantry Medal which would have been listed in the London Gazette. Another award easily checked.
No details of a commissioning entry or the award of the Queens Gallantry Medal. How strange as we still can’t find MacDonald’s.
Jackson is also not listed in The Gazette as being awarded an MID or listed as having served in the Falklands. He is also not listed or mentioned in the well documented RMP RHQ web page vault of regimental history.
Jackson claims to have served in the Royal Military Police from 1975 to 1990 and saw active service with crew of 82 yet when we look at the names of the those from the Royal Military Police who deployed to the Falklands during the conflict.
We can’t find him, just as we could not find MacDonald. Not surprising as when we posted up our CC1

We got this back. A few examples of the same response.

Not one ex or serving Monkey knew Jackson other than one who believes he may have attempted to join the TA many years ago.
It would have been impossible for someone to have served as long as Jackson claimed in the Royal Military Police without crossing others paths in the same corps!
However we dig deeper and no service history could be found on Peter Jackson and considering the length of service he’s claiming on LinkedIn to have served you would have thought at least one person would have.
Now to address the Honorary Colonel, Royal Military Police claim. The current position has been held by Simon D’Olier Duckworth OBE D with no mention of Jackson being appointed the role.
We found him in uniform with medals marching with veterans at the Otley Remembrance Parade 2021

We then find an article in the local Otley rag where he claims (vaguely) he started his career in the guards, but does not mention which one) then claims he Joined the RMP’s soon after.
Again no records of a Peter Jackson being awarded the medals he claims to have been awarded in the Scott’s or Welsh Guards both units served in the Falklands war.
The article link below is the only time he mentions the guards. His LinkedIn and company bio makes no mention of it and his dates he claims he served in the RMPs are inconsistent with having served in the Falklands with the Guards.
We reached out to Jackson via his council email address but he was not that keen to talk to us.
Not the first time someone has used a false military past as a reason for a period of time spent away from the general public. We will let you draw your own conclusions as to those reasons.
Further investigation has established Jackson clearly states he is a Solicitor on his Crown Services website, yet searches on the Roll of Solicitors yield zero returns! Which is a criminal offence if he calls himself a Solicitor or acts as a solicitor, if he isnt on this Roll of Solicitors .
He also declares that he is a professional witness used in Court Cases on the Crown Services web page, again he is not listed on the Index of UK Register of Expert Witnesses.
Other allegations have surfaced over his methods as a Bailiff when claiming to be acting under a court but using Facebook to post threats for money.
Soon after posting our Come on down.

And as predicted Jackson started to do the normal walt backpedal and sanitation exorcism of social media like his LinkedIn

Otley Town Council are allegedly looking into the case Otley Town Council statement
Yet as per the normal MO of councillors they keep tight lipped until it’s all forgotten.

To end this sorry tale up other questions are now being asked over his legal qualifications, business claims and other such things outside of our remit. But even sadder is the fact for so many years he managed to fool the town folk of Otley for so long and get himself in such a high position of authority. What other damage has his walting done to others. Only time will tell.
A statement from the Royal Military Police Association (RMPA) regarding Cllr Mr Peter Jackson Otley Town Council West Yorkshire:
In recent weeks a gentleman known as Peter Jackson, an elected Councillor with Otley Town Council West Yorkshire, where he sits as part of the Liberal Democrat Party, has attracted adverse publicity and interest from various Armed Forces Veteran groups on social media.
The RMPA neither condemns nor condones the actions taken by any group or individual who seek to expose those who claim falsely to have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.
The RMPA does strongly condemn the improper wearing by any individual of any uniform, medal, or decoration, particularly those awarded for gallantry, for whatever reason they may have, be it for simple self-aggrandisement or seeking pecuniary, financial, or reputational advantage.
It has been brought to the attention of the RMPA, that Mr Jackson has made statements, and published photographs that would appear to show that he served in the Corps of Royal Military Police (RMP), perhaps between 1974 and 1990.
Further Mr Jackson has stated that his service with the RMP included undergoing specialised prolonged training in Law at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
In photos published bearing his name as the subject, he is seen to be wearing, on his chest, whilst in some form of uniform, depicting to the viewer that the wearer may have achieved the rank of Lieutenant – Colonel ( he also may be seen in video to be wearing our famous “Red Cap”), and in civilian attire, various medals including the GSM NI, which is embellished with an Oak Leaf, indicating that he was Mentioned in Despatches. He also appears to be wearing a South Atlantic Medal with Rosette, awarded to those who served in the Falklands War of 1982. He also wears other medals that may lead people to believe that he was decorated for further gallant actions. It is a matter of public knowledge that Mr Jackson has stated on his curriculum vitae and other business-related narrative backgrounds that he was made an “Honorary Lieutenant – Colonel RMP”.
The RMPA are unable to substantiate any claims made by Mr Jackson relating to service in the RMP, or indeed any other such statements made by him on public forums which may lead people to believe that he served and earned any rank, awards, recognitions, qualifications, titles, or honorary rank. The RMPA has attempted to approach Mr Jackson via email and phone in order that it may verify with him any of the claims currently causing upset within the wider Veterans’ community. Such attempts have not elicited a response, at the time of writing. The RMP took part in the liberation of the Falkland Islands in 1982 and is able to identify all those who wore our cap badge at the time who deployed as part of the Task Force.
The RMPA has neither sought nor granted permission for Mr Jackson to wear British Army uniform. It is unusual for any Veteran to wear or indeed be allowed to wear a uniform, any such uniform if authorised would in any case be expected to show and have clear indication that the wearer has retired from the Army and is no longer serving, uniforms may of course be worn as part of a drama or play or as part of a historical re-enactment society, where such a uniform would be clearly “out of date” and worn in the correct setting.
It is the wish of the RMPA that if Mr Jackson feels that any of his claims can be verified, that he opens a dialogue with the Association as soon as possible in order that we may assist him in clarifying his record of service and any honours and awards received and thus rightly worn.

From the Deputy Chair of the Otley Armed Forces Day committee.
They have acted swiftly ahead of any council investigation and removed Jackson from their ranks.
Yet again had Jackson taken up our kind offer all this could have been avoided 😉
TWMHCHQ……out.
